Issue 5 will be up soon, and I’m hoping that many people will read it. Unlike previous issues, this one has been designed primarily in QuarkXPress. For a while I was going back and forth between QXP and Dreamweaver; eventually I discovered that I could do most of the work in QXP—a huge relief and time saver.
Some contributors have written me with questions about MN, so I thought I’d post FAQs here.
- How come some of the links don’t work?
- How can I print my piece?
- Where are notes on the contributors?
- Is there a counter to keep track of visitors?
- Can I do searches?
- How do I express my appreciation for the hundreds of hours it took to produce the issue?
Here are my answers:
- Some of the links don’t work because the site is not live; what you see is under construction. When construction is pau, I will let you know, and you can let friends, family, colleagues, boarders, correspondents, strangers, and babies know.
- Printing is tricky because the site uses frames. If you want to get your piece plus the first and third frames, you might have to do a screen shot or image capture. If you want to print your piece alone, use one of these links: http://www.mixednerve.org/pages/fifth-issue/[your first name]/[your first name]1.html or http://www.mixednerve.org/pages/fifth-issue/[your first name]/[your first name]1.htm. For example, if one of my pieces were in the issue, I would go to either http://www.mixednerve.org/pages/fifth-issue/pat/pat1.html or http://www.mixednerve.org/pages/fifth-issue/pat/pat1.htm.
- Contributor notes will most likely be incorporated into the editor’s note.
- I purchased a service called Site Analytics from godaddy.com, so we now have a way to count and track visits. For those who are interested, I’ll post data at this blog from time to time.
- Most of the text is rasterized (converted into an image), so you’ll be able to do searches on only a few pages.
- The best way to express appreciation is to encourage everyone who might want to see your work to visit MN. The second best way is to take me out to one of my favorite restaurants
